A Parting Gift

Our relationship was too old to suddenly show our feelings, yet too deep to swallow. That was what existed between him and me -- longing for each other more than anyone else, yet unable to say so. And in that state, today -- our last day -- finally arrived. On our final night before leaving the jazz bar we’d shared for so long, he asked if there was anything I wanted. I gathered my courage and told him my wish. “Yeah. Let’s stay together. Just for tonight.”
